I sat watching the elections at my father-n-laws house..........praying for God's will and praying for my father-n-law. You see, my dad (because he really was my dad) sat in his bed propped up by pillows was fighting to breathe. As the nation cast their vote and made their choice, we weren't sure if he had an hour left, maybe two......even the night. And I was soooooo thankful he didn't have to know who had won. You see, my dad was an old school, country loving, patriotic retired United States Marine. He loved his country and he loved his family more than anything. And most important of all, he loved Jesus.
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer almost two years ago. Yes, that's right, stage 4.......and two years ago. The doctors gave him 6 months if that. The night he first got sick, he lay in the hospital bed not really knowing what was wrong with him. But he knew something was wrong. That night, he bowed his head and prayed and asked the Lord to come into his heart and save him. He was immediately saved..........and also immediately delivered from alcohol and smoking. He had smoked and drank heavily for over 50 years. He never touched either one again. Later that week, he was diagnosed and decided that he would not take chemo or radiation. He would go when the Lord said it was time. He lasted 2 years on his faith in Jesus Christ and the love of his family and pets.
My dad was my breakfast buddy.....................and my mushroom hunter. We shared a love for morels; he was the one to teach me how to clean them and cook them.....of course only if I was willing to cook him some. :) And I was always willing.
My dad died on November 5th, 2008 at around 12:04 p.m. At home (he never once had to go to the hospital again) with his entire family by his side......his son Buster holding one hand and my husband holding the other. His wife gently carassing his face and telling him how much she loved him. That's how he died. So peacefully, we weren't even really sure exactly when it happened. He just went home to meet his Saviour.
So yeah, I think there are worse things than Barak Obama....................even though I know he's with the Lord............I'm going to miss him terribly.
